Thank you so much - after looking at some images I'm sure it was a Smooth Pufferfish. Never seen one before - it's front end was thick as a brick with big eyes. Not much of a fight.

Unfortunately, when you find one you frequently find many. They can sure tear up some tackle.

Does anyone recall catching these in the past(other than the past couple years) on the St Marks flats? I surely can't remember coming across them in numbers like this in 10 years of fishing the area.

First one caught was a neat novelty but I really hate them now. They will bite anything and the jaws will tear up whatever is on the end of your line(keep your fingers clear of that mouth BTW or the tip of your finger will be smooth too). HATE THEM!

Here's a video of one biting through a beer can like it's paper.

4 or 5 years ago, they were EVERYWHERE. Prior to making their way here we had a massive problem with them in PSJ area.

Once it warms up they'll flock back in. Hate those buggas

The good news is when they show up you know good fishing is on the way. They are still a cool fish.
