Eastpoint / Apalach report

Post by Juan »

Spending a few days of fishing at Sportsman's Lodge in Eastpoint... fishing conditions yesterday were almost perfect but the water is still stained and there's a lot of fresh water left from recent rains. Only put 1- 18" trout in the cooler. The wind is blowing a mini hurricane today but I still tried to wet a hook. Put a 17" trout and a 23" redfish in the cooler before the wi nd and waves beat me to death. Goi g back out later when the tide changes. Not the best conditions, but beats doing honey do's at home!

Tide change made a big difference. Had a 5 fish limit in under an hour.

Some good memories in those pics, I fished that area with Captain Ron on quite a few occasions.
This evening we had a lot of action with reds up river near bear creek, where, on one trip we did see a young bear swimming.

I didn't notice the water temps. This morning was low tide and a strong north wind blew the water out of the bay. Had to idle half way back to the ramp before I found 2 ft of water. Still managed another limit of trout and a 20" red. I've gotten used to a 3 fish limit..I'm liking this 5 fish limit and going home with two gallon bags of filets.

Nice work Rick. Do you freeze your trout? I’ve only eaten it fresh, but I’ve heard it gets mushy when frozen. What do you think?

Yeah, I vacuum seal and freeze the filets in dated bags.. I haven't had any get freezer burn but if there are any bags left after 6 months, they go into the pond. Haven't had a soggy filet yet. A buddy freezes his in water and claims they keep longer that way.
Had a great time and the fishing was good. I got out of Apalachicola just in time to miss all that rain.
