Grouper in the Rock Garden

My buddy caught a grouper over in the Rock Garden today. Was this a fluke or do they troll the flats around here from time to time? We were both shocked when he got it in the boat. We were expecting it to be a red. We pretty much scratched our heads, took a few pics, and sent it back on its way.

You will find a small one on the deeper flats from time to time. Fun on light tackle

Had no idea. We found this one in about 3 feet of water.

At the right time of year you can catch 30+” gags in 6-10’ on the rock piles

A long time ago(about 10 years or so ago) I caught a keeper grouper on the flats just off the lighthouse in about 4'. It was a cold day.

I caught a Grouper out there a little farther than the rock garden when somebody took me fishing a long time ago. He was just short. I haven’t caught 1 of everything from the flats yet but I caught that Grouper.
