Water Clarity

Post by konrad »

Went out this Sat on a little dive trip with the wife and neighbor. It’s only the second time I’ve gotten to go this year so needless to say we were a little excited. Headed out of Lanark mid morning and wasn’t in that much of a hurry since high tide wasn’t until 2:30. Our first stop was some rock piles in 40’. We noticed the algae was pretty bad but hoped it would clear up near the bottom. Well that didn’t happen. By the time we got to the bottom the vis was 5’. Went back to the surface and headed out a little deeper to another spot. Same thing got to the bottom and could barely see the tip of the spear gun.

Can someone tell me how far out I need to go to get some half way decent vis?

It varies day to day.

Typically the 100ft area is usually a bit clearer.

There was a lot of water moving this weekend with the new moon. My friend said it was just 2-3 feet in the keys.
