Crossing in your kayak? Wouldn't advise it. The current rips through Indian Pass and it's a deep channel, too. There are ferry services that run visitors over to SVI. Not sure if they would piggyback a yak though.

There are a few put-ins in more sheltered water. On the north side of the sound just off the scenic highway to St. Joe or at the Indian Pass Campgrounds. Lots of oyster bars, but the water is usually mocha-colored. There is also a nice dedicated kayak launch on the Cape, just after the long turn past the Air Force station that will put you in the head of St. Joe Bay.

Thanks King, kinda figured it was swift due to narrowness.

i have a bunch of girls in my family that do it. it isn't that difficult and not far at all. everyone needs a little excitement in their life. if you have the option avoid peak tidal flow.
