ST Marks NWR - 11 NOV 2018

Post by Terrier »

Fished the refuge today from 1:00AM - 3:30PM, 2nd time since hurricane and things are slowly improving for me. Fished the passes to the west and got a 4 trout at 22", 20" , 17" and one around 14". Picked up a short flounder and 3 short reds (all around 16" - 17"). Lost a big flounder - maybe around 20" - turned to get the net and probably raised the rod tip. Sometimes they grab the fly and are never hooked. I did see the "muds" of a few other small ones, so the flounder are definitely showing up. The trout action should get going with cooler water.

What depth are flounder coming up for flies? Or are these sinking flies?

sinking flies, intermediate line - but the water depth was only about 3' over the area where the flat transitions to the deeper cut between oyster bars. The tide was moving pretty fast so you need to compensate with weighted flies.
