rocky Creek to Pepperfish Key

Post by driftboat »

Good morning,
I put my 16' jon boat w/25hp in at Rocky creek and fish the flats and against the grass.
I always look towards Pepperfish and wonder is that doable with my rig.
Safety is my biggest concern. I do not have electonics as I am usually near the mouth of the creek.
Any tips or ideas?
Thanks in advance

Looks like about 9 miles to run around that way. How fast does your boat run?

There is a small boat ramp closer on Sink Creek, but I can't tell how easy it is to get out from Google.

As far as sink goes I have seen boats made up like yours come out of there that launched there. I have never been up to the landing but have used my trolling motor in my 18' boat to fish that creek on the right tides with no issues. The distance from there est 4-5 miles. Aim for south of Bowlegs on to the deeper channel that runs behind pepper fish keys. There are some rocks along the grass lines south of sink and on around. I guess depends on how comfortable you are making that run. I have come in from cow creek behind pepper fish and ran almost to sink in my Gheenoe classic with a 25 several times. Cow creek is a lot of work to launch there on that type of boat you would be lifting it on and off the trailer.

It looked like it! I had a hard time telling if there was a ramp there or not.

FWC has a great website with info on boat ramps. https://atoll.floridamarine.org/dle_gis ... mp_status/
The site provides a map showing where ramps are and provides info on fees, parking, lanes, and other pertinent info. You can zoom in and actually see the ramp. For Cow creek, it reads under comments: this undeveloped launch site accesses a shallow tidal marsh creek along County road 361 south of Jena. No facilities. Best suited for airboats, very small Jon boats, canoes or kayaks. Low tide can drain almos

Thanks for the info.
I am planning on coming down in September.
For July I am going to the Cumberland River in Ky
and August looks like the White in Arkansas.
I will post reports.
Thanks,

If nothing else it's a shorter run from horseshoe to pepper fish and worth the run to me. Good luck on the white, I always had better luck on the Norfork.

Doom,
As my name says I used to have 2 different driftboats,
I have fished both the White and the Norfork.
My best brown came last August on a
articulated yellow streamer at
Wildcat.I really like the light tackle salt though.

Wildcat creek in the Chattahoochee nat forest? Congrats, the only trout fishing I've done in Georgia was on the soque and it was amazing, it and my first trip to the Norfork were one of the few times I felt I got my money's worth from paying to fish somewhere.
