How to visually see where to fish on St George Island beach

Post by DEADLYMNM7 »

I hope you seasoned veterans can assist me.
I plan to fish on the surf on St George Island beach this weekend, probably on 3rd street access, and I would like to know how to visually spot in the water for the best spot to fish.
What am I looking for?
I want to catch whiting, pompano and black tip shark.
Any tips would be great!
Thanks

Look for an area that has a trough between the beach and a sandbar.

You can see the sandbar fairly clearly on Google Earth. In places where the trough is deeper, the water will appear slightly darker in the satellite imagery. I was there a few weeks ago, forgot my surf rod, but the guys staying in the house next to us were tearing the pompano up between 5th & 6th Street East.

Be VERY careful wading out on either end of that island. The tide rips pretty good through the cuts and both area, especially the east end, are inhabited by a large number of large sharks. Other than that, it is a great place to wade fish.
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!
