Panacea / Alligator Point surf fishing

Post by wlhopkins »

Hello everybody. Coming down the weekend of June 5th to do some surf fishing. We are staying on ochlockonee bay in panacea. Any advice on best rig to use and good places to fish? I would appreciate your advice. Thank you!

I would go over to the State Park at Bald Point and fish around the oyster bars. You can't miss with a live shrimp under a popping cork. Gulps are good if you cant get live shrimp. Fish the tide changes and you should find fish to catch.

Not as good as the Bald Point side. Mashes sands is exactly what the name says... Sand. Bald point offers oyster bars that attracts bait and predator fish. Bald point at a low tide with incoming or out going current can be full of action.

Live bait will catch a lot of unwanted fish. I’d go with a 1/4 oz Jig Head with a Gulp New Penny Shrimp or a mullet colored paddle tail. Throwing live bait with bottom weight is going to cause you frustration around those oysters. If you absolutely have to use live bait go with the tourist rig.

Good luck.

Pack the bug spray..
