Keaton Beach 18-19

Post by Ugafishman »

Made it down for the first time since March. Started about 8am and we threw our arms off for three hours with no bite. We went shallow and I finally hooked up a nice 24 inch trout that went about 5lbs. My buddy then caught an 18" and 19"3/4 on back to back casts. A few minutes later he hooked up a nice 26" red. The tide was going out so we decided to move deeper. No luck for the next hour. We moved again farther south back to shallow water and caught another 5 keepers before 3pm and decided to call it a day.

Started bright and early Monday morning and decided to commit to the shallows. We began around a few oyster bars and caught nothing for the first two hours. We headed back to the spot where we landed the big trout from yesterday and again threw for an hour with no luck. About 11am, with the tide going out, we ran back to the spot we had ended up at the day before. For the next 2 1/2 hours we proceeded to pick up at least 20 keeper trout. We ended up culling everything under 18 1/2 inches. For the day, we kept two trout, 20" and 21", and eight more between 18 1/2 and 20. We also picked up another two redfish, 21" and 26". Everything we caught for the two days was in water between 1.5 and 2.5 feet deep over grass. We got absolutely no action until about two hours after high tide both days. Bite a Baits were the ticket. Tennessee shad was the hot color and unfortunately there was only one in the boat and I did not own it. I held my own with the fighter gold color but he outfished me 2-1.

We have been fishing Keaton for many years but this was the best day we ever had. What a trip!

To fish, or not to fish, . . . those are the answers.
