St. Marks 6/29

Post by BeeeReady »

Headed out of the lighthouse Wednesday morning 6 30ish..lots of bait in the canal...loaded up and hit the creeks east on a good incoming tide and south wind...The grassline was loaded with reds of all sizes and quite a few bonnethead sharks in the 2-4 ft class. Fished until the storm at 2 o clock chased us off the water... the total count for the day was 11 Reds ranging from 30 inches to 18 inches... 6 trout from 13 to 19 inches... ladyfish.. 2 flounder at 15 inches.. one very nice 16 inch mangrove snapper way in the back country where the dike is at...small little sand perch and mud minnows and little pinfish did the trick! The trout ate the redfin and small mirrodine lures...overall a fun day on the Backcountry... :-D

Good one, Beeeready.
To fish, or not to fish, . . . those are the answers.

Thanks for the report! Sounds like a good day. when you say the grassline was holding reds, do you mean the grassline facing the bay or on the inside of the creeks? Does it matter?

Also, do you free line the baitfish or use a cork?

Most of them were on the grass line facing the bay that I could see... the higher the water got the deeper into the grass the red fish got into it...

Freelining works well..I like to use a cork for some noise..and control...
