Headed to St. Marks in morning

Post by Saltydawg »

My son and I are headed to St. Marks in the morning. Weather looks good and super excited to just be out. Planning to try creek mouths and maybe some slow trolling. Would appreciate any tips or reports.

You've got it on lock. Suspending plugs, small jigs/jerk-baits. Heck, on a low tide don't be afraid to throw a topwater!

Just a follow-up on our trip to St. Marks yesterday. We got on the water about an hour or so before high tide and puttering out saw several boats anchored a little gulf side of the intersection of the 2 rivers catching some nice trout. As the tide slackened the action seemed to die but once it was rolling again the bite really took off.We caught several trout trolling paddle tail jigs while waiting for more tide movement But bout an hour or so into the new tide it all broke loose and all the boats we could see for half a mile or so from intersection towards gulf seemed to be catching fish. We poled down in about 5-6 ft in one spot slow rolling jigs toward the channel and literally got fish on almost every throw. Must have caught 50+ in that one spot, most of course 11-14 1/2 inches but 5-6 keepers. When that spot slowed we slow trolled some more basically exploring and caught couple more keepers then went to drifting with tide still slow rolling and caught probably 30-40 more until we reached our limit. As preparing to motor back to ramp we decided to maybe try mirrodines thrown to the bank thinking maybe the sunny day had warmed that shallow water and sure enough got the largest, 20 in or so, fish of the day and lost another nice one. All in all a great day.
