Flamingo - Backcountry

Post by Greenbone »

Henry and I made our annual trek down to Flamingo ,Everglades National Park for 3 days of windy conditions. We fished an area called Snake Bight , it was a deep channel surrounded by skinny flats. So did a dozen charter boats from Islamorada. Never seen so many boats in that area , ever. We did catch and release trout and snook. The last day we took Joes River up to Little Shark River, took an hour each way but was well worth the trip. Reds ,trout, jacks, lady fish and one tarpon hookup that lasted 20 minutes. If you’ve never been to Flamingo, put it on your bucket list.

Good report. Buddy and I camped and fished from Tiger Key in January.

For those who have never been, I have an upcoming article in the May 2022 issue of Salt Water Sportsman that is a primer for backcountry boat camping in ENP. Details on permits, passes, necessary gear, tackle suggestions, etc.

I'll post a link when the article goes on-line.
