May 2023 Mosquito Lagoon Backcountry New Smyrna Beach

Post by CaptMikeSavedow »

Summer 2023 has arrived to the waters here at New Smyrna and Daytona Beach and Mosquito Lagoon, time for early starts again for fishing trips, warm water, lots of schools of baitfish throughout the Intracoastal Waterway, summer vacation begins, kids out of school, lots of fishing trips with families and children, all of these summertime changes are here. Most fish are more scattered out here in the backwaters, drifting along channels and along drop offs as fish can be all along the way in the spread out pattern. Some fish in the upper water levels like Seatrout, Jack Crevalle, Ladyfish, others along the bottom and close to structure like Black Drum, Mangrove Snapper, Snook, Redfish, Whiting and others. Jim from Connecticut out recently with a really nice backwaters Black Drum we caught, photo and released …………..

Young Rosey from New Hampshire out with her family, they caught a bunch of different species, with Rosey catching the “big one” …………….

Repeat client Kristin from Alaska loves to fly fish, Ladyfish are one of the fun inshore game fish will take a fly, then a fast, jumping fight …………...
