St. George Island Fishing

Post by Saltydawg »

We are headed to St. George Island Saturday for a week of sun n fun, grouper sandwiches at Blue Parrot, and steamed shrimp at the Indian Pass. When not feeding my face or enjoying a cold one or two plan on doing some fishing probably most in the bay behind the state park and maybe try to run some buoys. Anybody out there have any fishing reports they may wanta share? Lies are perfectly acceptable. I’ll try to post our results also.

We fished in the surf 5/25-5/28. Mostly right at sunrise till 8:30 or so and then again in the late afternoon most days. Did well on pompano and whiting. Few blue fish mixed in. Had some good blowups on topwater on the mornings that the surf was calm. Didn't try the bay since the tide was so flat. Good luck! Love St. George

Awesome, we will try some dawn topwater especially if they still issue a yearly pass to state park which used to give you access to the gate code so you can get your boat in the water before sunrise. I’d rather catch one on topwater than 10 any other way. And if you are staying on the east end of island you can topwater for couple hours and be back before most of the rest of family up and moving, hence no tension. And we should be a little better”armed” this year for surf fishing as both my sons and I have acquired inexpensive surf outfits whereas last year used just an inshore outfit. That said my 9 yr old granddaughter had a blast catching 4 different varieties of sharks including an aerobatic spinner, think that experience solidified her as a fisherwoman. What sort of topwater you using in surf?Anyway you look at it sure we will have fun as St. George is a really neat place. Just HATE that Dr. Beach just pronounced it one of best beaches in America as rents have already doubled from 2021 to 2023.
