Foot long shellcracker

Post by skitterwalk »

I Got to work and saw the storm moving in right for T-N-T so with nobody in the parking lot. I took out the versa board and sliped it in the calm, and chilly morning water. Armed with a rod, some night crawlers, and ofcourse a camera and measuring board I stand up and begin my search. Two small brim later and the BIGGEST brim I have ever seen inhales my night crawler! I set the hook and baby her in leting her take line whenever she wanted. Once she was boat side I slid my hand underneath her and layed her on the deck(keep in mind im screaming HOLY CRAP!!! and all that good stuff on the way in  ) Im scared to even mover her and put her on the board thinking she will flop out so I paddle back to T-N-T and get some shots of the "jurassic Shellcracker"! :D

That is not a blue gill. It is a red eared sun fish or what most of us call a shell cracker. It is one of the best fighting fish there is.

Way to go Skitterwalk!

You can do it in fresh or saltwater.
