Piney Z 5/27

Had a great day at Piney Z. We dropped a jon boat in at 4, and long lined the first half hour and caught 3 small Blue gill. We fished the southern half of the center dike where we had gotten fish and boated about 8 BG, and then we found a little honey hole on the sonar, a 3 ft drop with brush on the shallow side, and pulled in about 10 from there. We left there after 30 minutes, and fished the north side, where we boated a couple slabs and about 10 more BG. At around 8:30 we came back to the southern half of the lake and caught a 4 lb LMB near one of the islands, and a 7lb Gar immediately after that. We caught everything on brim busters, and an earthworm except when we were long lining. Surface temps were 95 when we arrived, most fish were suspended just off the bottom in 6-7ft, with some good marks appearing here and there at the 3ft level. The majority of our large fish were caught in the shade. Altogether we kept about 10 handsize or larger BG. The jon boat was extremely difficult to recover, but it was worth it to have a full sized boat at the Z.
