My o'l Granddad used to catch them in Jackson with a small cane pole rigged light with very small hook and bobber. He used small pieces of biscuit dough(bread will work, too)and fished in the edges of maiden cane patches. The cane looks like short reeds poking up out of the water. I remember him catching a few nice bream fishing this way, and the shiners were big. That's what the big bass wanted.
