Grits and Panfish?

Post by CoastalPirate »

I've been trying to catch bluegills and crappie for the last year to no avail. My neighbor told me to chum the water with grits to attract these delicious table fare in clear water; I had just returned from the clear watered Lake Hall. I'm going to try it on the next trip out there just wondering has anyone heard of this trick or tried it with success?

I have heard of throwing cooked grits on to a treetop to draw & hold panfish to the area. Never tried chumming with it so I don't know if it really works.

I have heard of putting uncooked rice to bait a hole, but have never tried it

Never used grits to chum but wouldn't shock me if it works... did feed panfish in our ponds lots of bread crumbs as a boy and know that they will draw them in / start them feeding. Just pinch off small pieces of bread and ball up in pea-size portions, throw out and panfish will start feeding on them.
