About 3 months, after having treated the seat with silicon like the guy at the Islamarado fishing store recommended. I think he was the bartender across the street in the evening. :o :smt005
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!

I use a black UV resistant wire tie cinched down on the threads close to the seat to keep the nut from backing off.

***UPDATE: Its been a year since I wrapped my reels. I took the tape off one to check for corrosion and it was still in perfect condition. I think the rescue tape must do a very good job sealing out the water and salt.***

Sounds like a great idea but…..My habit is to tighten my reel seat and check the drag the beginning of every fishing day.

Habits are hard to break!

I do like the use of colors to identify reels but I do that with the color of the line.

BEEN USING SILICONE TAPE ON REEL SEATS SINCE IT CAME OUT, HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS SINCE THEN. THE OLDER RODS I HAVE OWN , THE CORK WOULD SPLIT AND FALL APART, AFTER I STARTED USING THE TAPE HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS. MIGHT MENTION THAT I SPRAYED W-D 40 ON SEAT BEFORE WRAPPING.

Broke a rod so I had to take the tape off... Nearly three years just spraying it off with the hose and and it still looks great.

I think the silicone tape really keeps the water out!
