A unique website dedicated to fishing information from Florida's Northern Big Bend. This includes the area from the Econfina River west to the Apalachicola River
How early in the summer do Tarpon start to show up in East Pass and around Apalach? I know I've seen them out of Econfina in July, but do they come up any earlier than that?

you need plenty of patience to catch tarpon around hear I use to heavy of tackle becuase i do not want to lose a big fish i use 80 pound briad and a heavy duty rod for bait i use live pin fish or blue crabs. for a reel i use a tld 25
HIGH HOPE, I've never had much luck with them out on the flats because they don't ever seem to hold in an area, always just moving thru. I was asking because I'm taking another extended wknd back down in June and might spend an afternoon out in East Pass trying to catch tarpon, but probably just catching sharks. I use at least 30 lbs test with an 80 lbs leader, circle hook and live pinfish. It's fun just to get that first jump out of them, bringing them to the boat is another story.
Thanks for the info guys. It's funny, I have been down a lot lately and still haven't seen a cobia, other than a couple huge swirls around my CT, nor did I see or hear of any tarpon. Oh well.....

My dad has a sting ray barb at home that is 6-8 inches long. It came off a ray he caught in west pass looking for tarpon. It inhaled a whole mullet and when they finally boated it, the wings hung over both side of the front of a 19' aquasport and the tail ran off the stern.
