Take a Kid Fishing, Great Sucess

Post by rx fisher »

The Take a Kid Fishing event went on without a hitch,
25 kids, 25 captains and 25 boats. Each child if possible had a
Capt. and boat to themselves. These kids for the most part were from
the Baptist Children’s Home and were very deserving of a day on the water. As one councilor stated, these kids most likely were not here last year and won't be here next year, so this very likely is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Now to the fun and fishing… The wind was blowing early so any offshore trips were changed to inshore. We had two boys 8 and 10, one from the home the other a quest,
We caught a couple nice keeper trout early, then the water left and the wind billowed harder, had to go deeper. Decided to use some chum in a channel to livin up things.

A nice, but short cobia gives the boys the first look at screaming drag. Over the next hour we boated 5 small sharks and a 4 footer, with a mack, remora and assorted cats.
The macks and lady fish never showed, but what would a couple young boys want to catch, but Sharks. The smiles will be long remembered.

To say that the kids got along would be an understatement, Our guest Josh a very skilled up and coming angler, was quite upset when his parents didn’t immediately allow his new found friend, Logan to come home with him.

Photos will follow after getting a though look over from organizers, Remember others posting reports, Many of the children can NOT be photographed for a variety of reasons.
Check with Don England (Greenbone) if in doubt.

Thanks to all the Captain's who would take time out of their busy schedules to take a kid fishing. The world is a better place because of folks like you.  :-D

May God bless each of you!

I would like to add this to JT51 & Flatpicker's remarks: Every once in awhile some of us actually get to do some form of God's work! Yesterday was one of those times in that I feel like the children were "Touched By An Angle" and we captains and crew were the Angles. Thanks to my youngest son, Tommy, and my granddaughter, Courtney, the little lady and her chaperon that we served had a wonderful time. I truly felt like we were fishing around with an Angle perched on our shoulders as she caught numerous fish - all on her own (my son and granddaughter are great teachers...I just drive the boat, you know)!!! :smt007 Praise be to the Lord for all things, large and small, Amen!

Thanks to RX for start'n up the post and special thanks to greenbone for the work he did this year to make the event so sucessful. My first mate "Blindhog" and I had a very enjoyable time. It was my third year but the first for Blindhog and he was surprised at the numbers of youngfolks as well as the captain response. The representation from NFGFC was wonderful. It was a good day for all. It's hard to be in the same boat with an excited 10 year old young lady who was about to experience all kind's of "firsts" and NOT HAVE A GOOD TIME :D First boat ride, First attempt at casting a line, First time to bait her own hook, First time to touch a Fish, First time to see (and touch) a: shark, trout, lady fish, spanish mack, rock bass, and pin fish. First time to have a wild creature join the crew and immediately bond with a human. We had a small bird land in the boat for a rest and decided to spent 30 or 40 minutes with us. Here are a few pictures to supplement what's already been posted.

Our leader has arrived:
