HIT OR MISS

Post by CROCKER »

IT IS HIT OR MIS IN THE SUMMER. THIS IS WHY WE INSHORE FISH DURING SPRING SUMMER AND FALL (EXCEPT BIRD SEASON), AND GROUPER FISH IN THE WINTER.

THERE AINT NOTHING LIKE A LITTLE OCEAN SPRAY FROM 4 FOOTERS ON A BRISK 30 DEGREE MORNING HEADING OUT TO 50' OF WATER AT 5 MPH BACK AT THE RAMP AT 1:00 WITH A LIMIT OF GROUPA. THATS OFFSHORE FISHING AT ITS BEST!!!!!!

Breambuster wrote:Sorry to hear that your trip was not up to your expectation. Is this one of the Wednesday Special mix-and-match trip? If it is, do you get to keep all the fish you catch or do you and your friend have to share your catch with the other three not so lucky fishermen? Obviously you did better than the rest of the "riders".
Yes Wednesday special.

No we did not get to keep our fish. I called in advance and asked should I bring my own cooler or do you cut fins, how do you mark them, on the phone I was told that everyone splits fish.

I started to cancel right then. I am no great fisherman but based on consistent past experience I was pretty certain that we would catch most of the fish.

The trip with Captain Bob there were six people fishing and my buddy and I who also had never caught a Grouper before caught nine out of the fifteen keepers caught.

Fishing in PCB every charter without fail I always had the most Grouper on the boat.

My nickname is the "meat-man" it dang sure is not because I am well endowed.

Most posts here and at the Florida Sportsman site say people fish deeper this time of year.

Is everyone else wrong and you are right?

I don't know this captain personally, but, I agree with Tom. I think you should contact him and let him know your feelings. If you feel you did not get your money's worth, express this to him. He will either try and make it right or he will tell you to f*** off.

If he tells you to f*** off, then you can bash him to death.

I will say, our last few offshore trips have been very educational. We will troll over known proven good grouper spots, drop live bait, drop dead bait, chum, etc. etc. etc. No luck. Freakin fish finder looks like a Christmas tree.

Eventually someone will suit up and go down to look. Usually grouper are stacked up but they are not hungry.

I'm sure this Captain took you to good proven spots, but the fish did not cooperate. At least I hope this is the situation.

Aslo, Tom can tell you, I rarely run the Team Grouper Key West boat over 20 MPH when we go. :-D :-D

When you consider the charter boats out of PCB consider 12 MPH fast, we are hauling A$$.

I think one should not judge the captain's ability based on the amount of fish caught. Anybody can have a bad day. If you're not catching fish and the captain is not trying to find fish but just sitting there, it's not likely that he will get my business again.

I've never fish with the said captain but have heard good things, so I would give him the benefit of the doubt. However, your description of sharring the catch put me off to go out with him. If I go fishing, I fish hard, use good tackle and usually do well. If I have to share my fish with someone who dont have a clue what they're doing, or just go out to drink beer all day, I would not be very happy about it. I think I will just stick with partyboats. Bummer.

The deal is pretty simple the guy on the radio says he is about six miles further out and catching them and the seas are flat. We are not on fish.

I would be retrieving the anchor in 90 seconds. Heading out to deeper water within five minutes.

The goal of the split trips is to try to promote business future charters that can be achieved through catching fish.

Please notice I did not start out to bash anyone I stated facts I mentioned no ones name.

The statement we have not been catching fish here in a while came from him.

Lets not act naive we don't want to go boat riding, I have a boat I know I don't always get them but I dang sure give it the old college try.

If what I am doing is not working I am on the move and ready to try something different.

We spent $500.00 between fuel, charter, hotel, and food. Tough luck is one thing, I have had that before, no biggy its life it just sucked and I am pretty sure it didn't have to.
