A unique website dedicated to fishing information from Florida's Northern Big Bend. This includes the area from the Econfina River west to the Apalachicola River
I have not seen one anywhere else....here it is being debuted on BBF, a monofilament epoxy spoon fly prototype II
I should be able to make the body bigger, but I may have to bend the hooks...playing around with the design...I like it so far I like the mono better than the wire variants...that wire is pretty temper mental, the mono wants to naturally bend in a uniform shape.
Once I get it all ironed out I will post the procedures.
Nolefear there are two pieces of mono on each side of the hook shank. The middle piece helps bridge the epoxy....you have to rotate it and do the epoxy twirl to to get the right shape.
Nice job Chalk. I've got a couple of the ones framed with wire, but never seen one from mono. You might want to consider using Tuffleye instead of epoxy. http://www.wetahook.net/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It's much easier to work with and cures in about 10 to 20 seconds using a blue light. The really cool thing about it is, if you've got a shape you want to copy, you can use silly putty to make a female mold of your plug, then fill it with Tuffleye, hook, glitter, etc, and then cure it at will with the light. Bob Popovics apparently swears by this stuff now and says he has given up epoxy for it.
Hey Chalk, I like this pattern so well I want to include it into my forthcoming Intermediate Fly Tying Classes starting next month @ Beef O'Brady's! Would you be willing to be a guest tyer for the class the evening of the scheduled fly tying session (June 17th)? If so, we would be greatly honored for you to demonstrate the tying of this effective looking fly. I can promise you the dinner of your choice is on the FBBF club, if you would like to come out and show us all how to tie it. The club will pay for the material expenditures for the group to tie the fly. If not, please inform me as to how to tie the final version of the fly and I will give it a go. Very well done, sir.
I would love to but I will be sharpening hooks, relining reels and heading over towards Pensacola for an IFA tournament that week. Let me know some other dates and I will look at them.
