Incoming Tide, sand bar trout

Post by Capt_J »

Took a mental health day in the Alligator Point area. Found the trout, and a few reds, cooperating with the incoming tide and warming over the drops of the bars. Suspending stick baits were the answer. This 27" trout came among along with the shorts.

The picture was from first week in Dec; wading on low tide change fishing from the bar toward the beach.
Water temp was tolerable but not comfortable (didn't measure, guessing low 60's). The Red's that day, were typical for open surf...fat and little to no red color...sparkling silver with a few spots. I was actually fishing more to try out a new rig (Penn Slammer) to see how/if I liked, the fish biting was an added bonus.

Indeed: this beautiful fish was returned to fight another day. She swam hastily away, I suspect with a few choice words for me as she departed...
