130 quarts of catfish

Post by Jumptrout51 »

Fifteen of us showed up for the catfishing trip at High Bluff this afternoon.
Got 40 bush hooks set about 5 p.m.
Ran the hooks backwards after setting and picked up 15 channel cats. All about 2-3 pounds each. Nice ones.
Came in to the camp and cleaned fish, fried up some potatoes, hushpuppies and catfish. :lick: :lick:
Went back out for the 2nd run. Blues and channel cats on nearly every hook.
Came back to camp for a short rest.
Went back out for the final run. Same as before 2-3 pound fish on almost every hook.
We filled a 120 quart cooler plus a 5 gallon bucket.
Had to quit. No where else to put fish.
The largest we caught was 7 pounds.
Left the ramp at 9:30 p.m.
Ya'll shoulda' been there.

Everybody was invited. Catfishing on Sunday was posted in The FISHING thread.
Guess you didn't see it. SORRY 8) .

It rained on us once for about 5 minutes while we were checking lines. Everyone at the ramp had a nice pavillion shelter to stand under. The bonfire made it nice too.
When I post the "going catfishing notices" everybody is invited,BYOB.

:smt024 Just got a phone call from Troutrent and OneKeeper. They decided to go back out for another run after everyone left.
They ran out of gas about a mile from the ramp. :smt005 Had to paddle all the way back. :smt043

Me and Trouttrent cleaned catfish for bout 2 hours and ended up with 3/4's of a 5 gallon bucket of boneless fillets. Tally for the night was prolly 25 channel cat from 2.5 to 7.5 pounds and 40 blue cats from 2 to 4 pounds all in all a very good catchin night. A little rain but at least it wasn't cold. Now for the gas shortage I'll take the blame for that since it was my boat--I surely thought 3/4 of a tank of gas would have been enough to idle around for a few hours :-? guess not. But I do appreciate Trouttrent paddleing most of the way back in. ( I guess he felt obligated since he did take my trolling motor off that day so it wouldn't be in the way  ) Not an easy task paddleing a 18 foot G3 jon boat but we made it back in. Thanks to Butch for cooking up some of the best shore dinner ever. Next time we go which won't be long yall are welcome to tag along.
