Gulf County 2/29, 3/1/08

Post by sanblaslayer »

Went down to the canal to let my sister and her family catch some fish to eat. Luckily we got some. Couldn't get very many trout to bite though. Got the sheepshead (19") on live shrimp. Got the reds and flounder on doa shrimp and jerkbaits. Ran to the cape side of the bay late in the afternoon dropped everyone off and decided to get my fly rod out for practice. Saw one red and spooked him. Casted into the glare and started stripping, fly came into view with two upper slot fish on its tail. One ate 10 feet from the boat and he worked me. First one I ever hooked on a fly, 2nd time I have actually tried. Now I am addicted. Nothing else moving in the bay except sheepshead and a large black drum. Maybe in a week or two.

There's something inherently glorious about a fish pulling on your line!
Besides that....damn it's fun!
