Met up with Noleflyfisher at the city ramp on Wed. The goal was to find some reds and maybe a trout if they got in the way. Hit the south side potholes early and Nole boated a few nice reds on Soft plastics. up to 27" and nearing 8lbs.
A steady Southeast wind had set in and we had visions of Big fish on the Lee side of the Cape. We made the 13 mile or so run for the point. Rounding the corner and easing around the shallow bars, we immediately began seeing all kinds of life roaming around, big Jacks, sharks, maroding schools of Lady fish and a very big school of upper/ overslot Reds

Nole whipped out a soft jerk bait and was hooked up right off the bat. I tried the fly rod with no luck. when I could get a decent cast to the school they ignored it. *Note to self: work on distance and line management. The school was hugging close to shore between two shoals while Nole set the boat up to ambush the school on the next pass. They slipped into a tidal pool and out of reach from the boat. We anchored the boat out off the beach and waded in. Nole worked the Beach side casting to a school just off the beach and I worked the tidal pool. I know the reds were in the pool but could not see them. The water was too deep and the pool was to big to completely fish. By the time a waded across to Nole he had landing one red and was working a ladyfish over like a rented mule. I cast into the fray and hooked a lady as well

The wind had shifted somewhat by now and the boat had made it's way to the shoal and was grounded so I high tailed it back to the boat to push it off. picked up Nole on the beach and I cast a few more times but could not hook up. The school was wise to me by now and the wind had my casting distance cut down. So we hung it up. Back across the bay in a stiff wind and white caps to Town Beach to finish the day. I think we finished the day with 6 reds....All Noles......happy for him....sux for me
Fished Friday with Real Cowboy and fished the potholes in the back, deep edges near the fire tower, and around Pig. A few trout to show for it but nothing to win a tourney. Got into the beers with Reel Cowboy, Eerman, TinCan, Birddog , Chalk, and Mike( Eermans partner) back at the Hill and thought it wise we not drive to Mainstay where we would for sure get into trouble
The plan for Sat was to repeat Wed. - forget the trout and hit the reds. How'd that turn out? Not to good. Made the run to the back side again to see if the early morning bite would produce a red then we blasted off to the outside. Overcast skies high water and three days of wind had the water churned up so we could only have seen the fish if they were right under us. We gambled, we lost. No guts, no glory. Managed three trout in the 11th hour when we got back to rid us of the skunk.
Nole was a good sport for sticking to the spinning rod all day, and I still owe him a trip after that one.
