PSJ May 2 & 3

Post by Reel Cowboy »

I left Moultrie around 4:30 Friday morning headed for a day of scouting and fishing with Barhopr.
I finally met up with BH around 7:30 that morning and headed to the city ramp behind Tincan and his new vessel (nice boat TC). We launched and headed for the potholes behind Black's Island and started fishing. It was a little slow for most of the day but the company and sites were great. I learned alot and had a blast on a heck of a boat. Thanks BH. Made it back the jump off point and met up with Birddog, Chalk, Eerman and TC.
Reel Cowgirl made it to Mainstay Suites so when we finished up I headed that way for the fish fry. RCG and I made it over to Blue water Outriggers to get her a rainsuit cause the last tourney was wet to say the least. The fish fry was great and the fellowship was enjoyed. Thanks to everybody that came.
We got up around 5ish to get ready and signed in. Met everyone at Presnel's and shot the bull for a while and headed to the city ramp with Bow'd Up and Bad Behavior to launch. Our first stop was around the Town Beach area and started wearing the ladyfish and blues out on top water in 2-3 feet of water. RCG caught what we thought was a pretty good ladyfish (Badcock & More mystery fish) on a mullet colored Top Dog. A couple of blues fell victom to my Chartuese Poppa Dog and another ladyfish. We keep those to use as bait on a future shark trip. We made a move to behind Black's Island as the wind picked up and the Lake & Bay boys came flying by. We made a few drifts over the potholes and started seeing a bunch of bait pods, sting rays and caught a few ding trout. I made another move further to the back of the bay. We pulled up and I went to throw the NEW drift sock that I bought the day before and left tied to the rear cleat and laying in the floor when we moved, only to find that it ain't there. I headed back the way we came to look for it (no I didn't have a float on it) cussing and fussing at myself. No dice. We started a drift and right off the bat RCG hooks our big fish. A few minutes latter we land another keeper and put him in the livewell hoping to be able to cull him as the day went on. I finally hooked smething tht came off on my Poppa Dog. I finally put one on ice shortly after that, nothing to write home about but a keeper none the less. I moved us around the island to try th Middle Grounds without any luck and went back to drift the potholes again. No dice on that drift. Moved to Pig Island and fished a little to no avail back to the holes. I was watching the bottom machine and it went from 10' to 11" in no time flat. Trolling motor to behind the island for what seemed like forever. My watch said it was 2:30 the GPS and Weather Radio said it was 1:30 so I called Bow'd Up and asked the time, 2:30. We packed up and headed to the ramp. A few minutes latter we're loaded and headed to Presnel's. We got there and found out that what we thought were semi decent fish were now way off of what we needed but it waas fun and that's why we went. Great stringers and fellowship. Thanks JT, TC and everyone involved.
Met the Brock family for a wonderful dinner and then back for some much needed sleep. Again thanks BH.
We'll definitely be back to PSJ.
