Poll: Favorite Repair Shop - PLEASE Resubmit Votes

Post by big bend gyrene »

*** Note **** Added several options to the poll on 6/15 so prior results wiped! Please resubmit your votes if at all possible    (as of 6/15, 6 votes were logged for Porter, 3 for Sunshine, and 2 for Jack's Boat and Trailers, with write-in votes for Jerry's Marine and Advantage)

My "new" boat is now going on year #3 and I know it's only a matter of time before some shop time is due :( .

Having had a few less than pleasant dealings with shops in the past (promised "next week" service dragging out to 3 to 4 weeks), and in light of Bad Behavior's recent popular post, I think it will be very interesting to know which repair shop folks most enjoy using. FULLY realize that not all shops do work on the same brands of motors, or even do motor work at all, but still interested in general advice on which shops are most valued by the site members. Accordingly, I've set the poll up to allow for multiple votes.

Sure welcome any follow-up details, good or bad, that anyone wishes to offer regarding their votes! Also encourage anyone to add poll options if you see I've left a deserving shop off the list  For you guys that fish further west, if you feel any shop is deserving enough for a long drive for us Tallahassee based folks, give a shout out or feel free to add them yourself. Believe the poll is restricted to 10 options but if enough folks vote, I'll try dropping any not receiving votes from the list after a few days. I'm sure I've left off MANY repair shops, as I'm only listing the ones I've already visited or picked up knowledge of from the BBF site.

With MANY thanks for any wisdom you're willing to share,
Big Bend Gyrene

Let's see. I've dealt with Wavel, Jack's, and Shield's. Wavel for a rock guard...went just fine. Bought a motor from Jack's, Waymon is a really nice guy. Jack's is too far for basic stuff, so I've had Shield's do a little work for me on the motor and I've been really happy. Also, not on your list, but I've had truck work done by Parkway Marine (who also does cars) and been very pleased with them. Guess I've been lucky with my dealings...now if I could just stop breaking stuff.

Advantage Marine in Medart (sponsor) and Tallahassee Marine (was Bellflower then Don's). I've had work done both places and have been rather pleased.

Bump ... first posted on the weekend so hopeful that a few folks may have more time mid-week to vote/give input :-) Also want to thank Reel Cowboy, Wevans, and Eerman for the good scoop

Might want to look up R&R Boat Repair in Attapulgus, Ga. Only about a 30 minute drive north from the Tallahassee Mall. Rick, the owner, used to own Storm boats with his dad. He definately knows his stuff and won't waste your time. They also have very low overhead, working out of shop in a small town, so his rates will probably be cheaper than anyone else. There are always a few $50,000 bass rigs sitting up there.

FYI, I don't think he is a mechanic for outboards, but any kind of boat repair he can do and he is an authorized Minn Kota repair facility. He had my boat for 24hrs when my trolling motor needed repairs.

Might want to consider adding Parkway Marine to the list.

Sir Reel, would gladly add Parkway if I could do so without clearing the poll results a second time! When I originally posted, I didn't realize that changing the poll would clear all results... Tom tried helping from the site admin role, but he too said that changes he tried making ended up wiping the results.

This said, if you, and/or any other board members, have nice things to say about Parkway PLEASE share as many details as you can in a reply! Been very interesting thus far to see the shops getting votes and comments / versus those not getting much mention... and in the end, I hope the thread serves the purpose of being a good source of invaluable advice/information learned from us users by real-life past experiences.

I bought my boat from a guy who originally bought it at Sunshine, so they know the boat well and do any work on it. I have always been happy with the work they do. Pete is a great guy, very reasonable and willing to work with you.

I gotta agree with you. Pete at Sunshine is about as honest as they come. I tell everyone I know to go there based on prices he's given me and how well I've been treated. Had a bad experience or two at Tallahassee Marine and Tri-State.
