6/21 St. Marks

Post by striperguy17 »

Got out on saturday for some fishing on the st. marks. got on the water around 1030 to dark skies and a lot of people going in. figuring that it might blow over jon and I made the run to the lighthouse and started to fish the incoming tide on some bars. Ended up catching 20+ snot rockets, a 20" red, and a 15" sea bass. Also hooked up on my first cobia yesterday. Started pulling drag immediately but eventually wrapped himself around the anchor line and I was screwed. The line snapped :bang_1 and I was pissed. Headed back up river to shell point around 2 to grab some food and went back to the same spot with no luck. Motored over towards wakulla beach picked up another cat and decided to finish the day up on the river. 3 or 4 cats later we called it a day. Had to really find the pattern for the fish and it was not easy. Also got checked by fwc yesterday. There was two officers on the boat and they were very nice and helpful. Much better then my last experience. At 2 they said we had the only redfish they had seen all day. All in all it was a great day on the water and really felt good to get out again.

everything came on cut bait. We had one on new penny gulp shrimp but since we only had one with us i hoped the pattern would change. tried a bunch of stuff first. The only downside to cutbait is all the crap that comes with it. Big pieces "close to deep water" are where all the decent fish came from. The cobia was off a rip behind a bar. The cats were on the bar.
