Got signed in at JBT around 6:00 and headed to Ecky. Took a gamble and fished an area that I had checked out from a distance but never had gone into before. Settle down and troll in and 2nd cast, bam, AJ boats a 21.5" trout. 2 cast later, 18.5" red nails my superspook. Turn him back hoping to land something better. 3 casts later, money, I snag a 24" red on the superspook. See the water hauling across an oyster bar, chunk the spook and a 21.5" trout clears the water by a foot, spook in mouth and finds the net in short order. I'm thinking to myself, this is going to be a fine day. Owen gets to land his first 2 redfish, 19.5" and 21". You talkin bout a little boy getting an early morning workout, he had a blast, but the best was yet to come. We headed back west for a pass a little farther out and AJ lands a 17" trout and a 18.5" trout. I caught the last trout of the morning around 10:30 that measured just over 22.5". As we trolled out, I noticed something moving a lot of water about 100 yard of the bow. Not sure what it was, it kicked the trolling motor into high gear for a closer look. We could not believe it. Five sea cows, 4 adults and a calf. That was the wildest thing that I had ever seen. They were not afraid of the boat in the least, just easing around just yards off the bow. We were all amazed at the size of those things......huge. Thats the first time that any of us had seen them in the wild. Simply amazing is the only way I can describe it. Anyway, we manage to release 2 more nice redfish and many short trout. Just could not manage 2 more slots to weigh in. Recipe for the day was top water, specifically super spooks in 1.5' to 3'.

Outstanding trip. Very rare to see Sea Cows on the flats. In all my years, I've only seen them out there twice. Once just out from the East Pass at Suwannee and once out from Crystal River. Never around Econfina.
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!
