How do I dispose of bad gas?

Post by Mook! »

I took the boat out yesterday evening and had some problems with the engine cutting out / misfiring probably 8-10 times over the course of 3 miles or so. After swapping gas tanks (thankfully I had a freshly filled 2nd tank aboard) I did not experience this again. I'm assuming something is probably wrong with the gas. There's only about 3 gallons left in the tank, but where/how to I dump this properly?

Put it in a car with THE TANK MOSTLY FULL and it will burn just fine. I had a similar problem a few years back and I put it in my truck and it was fine, never could tell a difference. just my .02

Give it to PA.... he can use it to pour down an armadillo hole!! If you haven't heard him tell that TRUE story, set down next to him when you have a chance and ask him about it. I laugh everytime I think about it. :smt005 :smt067 :smt117 :smt098 :smt082 :smt043

Uh, first be SURE there is no water in the bottom of the tank before you dump it in your vehicle. From what you describe, you may have been picking up a little water or trash now and then....

It's pre-mix 2-stroke, and my vehicle was expensive and ain't quite paid off yet, so that's absolutely not happening, but thanks for the advice. I have a large water seperator in the line on the boat, but I do suspect the problem is water. The air vent on that tank doesn't have a good seal and it's parked outdoors, so I think some water has gotten in there in all the recent rain.

The Leon County Land Fill on the Parkway takes old motor oil, antifreeze, etc. They probably would take bad gas as well but I can't say for sure.

The landfill has a hazardous waste disposal area for chemicals, oils, fuels, paint, and etc. It is free, except for the drive out there. Otherwise, you could store it until the city and county get together and have a hazardous materials disposal day. It has been at the Tallahassee Mall Parking lot in the past. I think they may do it twice per year.

1) At a dinner table at expensive restaurant with your inlaws
2) An airplane immediately after take off
3) In an elevator going to the top floor
4) In a porta-pottie with a line waiting outside

Is this what you were looking for WAM

Put it your truck and roll on. It won't hurt it...it's only 3 gallons.

Thanks whitebc...I was waiting for that once I realized what my topic said :-D . I'm not far from the landfill so I'll go that route if I run outta ant piles in the yard.
