Goodbye Boat

Post by Flats Rascal »

It all started with the flood here on the river. The folks living downstairs were knee deep in water. Their kinfolk brought a 5th wheel for them to live in. The next morning, just after they connected the generator, the trailer went up in a huge ball of fire. With my boat sittin' a mere ten feet away.

Like losing a member of the family.

2004 14' Cape Horn. Johnson 50 4-Stroke.

Speakin' of stroke. I thought I was gonna have one.

Yep, bummer. Yep, full coverage.

State Farm didn't bat an eye. Sent a check for full purchase price and forgave the deductable. State Farm made a terrible situation tolerable. I'd recommend them in a heartbeat. Quick with response and evaluation.

2004 was the last year they made my boat. Called Fabro (Cape Horn) in Milton asking did they have one sittin' around. No. But did advise me they sold the mold and rights to Point Clear Boats. They also no longer make the boat but said one was still for sale at a dealer in Destin. A quick trip over that way revealed that Point Clear had the mold but not the workmanship or quality.

Mrs. Rascal and I were spoiled with the Cape Horn quality and are finding it very difficult to fall in love with another. But we're looking.

Thanks, TC. You wouldn't happen to have a rusted out john boat with a oil-spewing Elgin I can borrow in the mean time?

You look really sweet in pink, by the way.
