Carrabelle 2-20 & 2-21-04

Post by Sea Fox »

We left the river at 7am fri. and tried to get some pins but nothing was biting. The water temp was 53 in the bay and the wind was blowing good already. As we went through the east pass we greeted by white caps that almost made me turn around, they where out of the south so I knew if we could beat our way out it would be a better ride back, all we could take was 12 to 14 mph. on way out without slamming. We went out to 65 ft. and 56 degree water where we found a good spot that we missed on the first anchor but got on it the second try. We fished there all day boating 18 keepers and 4 shorts that were all gags. The biggest was 16lbs . 2-21, I had decided fri. night not to fish today because of the forecast being 3 to 5ft. but when we got up it was 2 to 3 so we took off trying for repeat. we tried several spots in the same depth range and got 6 keepers, 10 short grouper with only 3 being reds, one octopus (bait) and 20 keeper black bass. All I can say is if you go grouper fishing anytime soon is take some cigar minnows, circle hooks and let the fish take the bait, it seemed like they wanted to taste it before the took it. 8) P.S. this was my first time using flouracarbon leaders and I am sold!
