sheepshead
Where and how can I catch them? I remember this time last year down at the inlet in Steinhatche there was a older man in a johnboat catching the heck out of them but I cant remember what he was using. I am in the middle from Keaton and Steinhatche. So any help?

Re: sheepshead
I tore em up several times this winter on the aucilla laying live shrimp on the bottom. Only problem is the dag-gum-mother-lovin-son-of-a-biscuit rocks!!! If you find a way to keep from loosing every other rig out there PLEASE let me know. I found em laying in some deep cuts in the river right at bends. They are great eating...just a pain to clean. Good Luck!!!

I would go about 1 mile back towards the road to Keaton just following the buildings but be careful only do this on HIGH TIDE and you should see a little island go back behind the island and there are several little creeks back there 1 of my dads friends tore them up back there on shrimp and GULP shrimp.

HEY VAVIPER, YOU CAN SLAY THEM DOWN AT THE LIGHTHOUSE AT ST.MARKS. FOLLOW THE CANAL OUT FROM THE LAUNCH AREA, ON THE LEFT ARE LARGE ROCKS FOR A JETTY, GO OUT ALMOST TO THE RIVER CHANEL, ON THE LEFT IS A SUNKEN BOAT WITH A WHITE PVC PIPE STICKING OUR OF IT, USE FIDDLER CRABS AND YOU CAN WRAP THEM UP . JUST REMEMBER TO SET THE HOOK JUST BEFORE THEY BITE.

ST MARKS IS WEST OF PERRY ON HWY. 98. COMING FROM JASPER TAKE RT. 51 TO MAYO, THEN U.S. 27 TO PERRY, THEN U.S.98 W. OVER TO THE ST. MARKS RIVER. JUST BEFORE YOU GET TO THE RIVER IS A SMALL R.V. PARK ON THE RIGHT, ACROSS THE ROAD GOING SOUTH IS A ROAD INTO THE ST. MARKS WILDLIVE PRESERVE. TAKE THAT ROAD ALL THE WAY TO THE END, YOU WILL SEE THE LIGHTHOUSE AND JUST BEFORE YOU GET TO IT, ON THE RIGHT IS THE LIGHTHOUSE POOL LAUNCHING RAMP. PLENTY OF PAVED PARKING EXCEPT ON THE WEEK-ENDS, THEN YA HAVE TO GET THERE EARLY TO GET A PARKING SPACE CLOSE TO THE RAMP. I WOULD THINK THAT WOULD BE A PRETTY FAR PIECE TO GO TO CATCH SHEEPHEAD. THE FLATS EAST AND WEST FROM THE LIGHTHOUSE HAS GOOD TROUT AND REDFISH IN THE SPRING THROUGH DEC.
HOPE I DIDN'T CONFUSE TOO MUCH.
