Take A Kid Fishing
Just wanted to bring this event back up in front of the forum, so we don't let it sneak up on us. This year's event is still on schedule to be held on Saturday May 16th. I exchanged emails with Don England last week for an up date and here is some information he ask me to share with the forum:
There are 30 kids as of last week, ranging from 6 yrs to seventeen yrs old
We have 12- 15 boats, captains as of yesterday, I'll get you a list of captains this weekend.
Both the Fort ramp in St Marks at the pavillion and Sheilds marina have waived launch fees
So, with the number of young folks we can expect this year, we still need an additional 12-15 volunteer Captains/boats. Occasionally, there will be two young anglers on the same boat but we try to place each one individually. If any of you would like to participate and have not committed as yet, please consider helping with this event. Typically it will only require 4 or 5 hours of your time on the water, and the use of your equipment. I have not heard the official times, but in the past, the activity generally starts around 8am and you will need to be back around 1pm for the cookout. Once you have returned your guests, your day is over, but you are welcome to stay for a hot dog if you'd like to socialize a bit. All of the youth will be transported to the launch and they will come with the appropriate PFD's. It would be your job to provide a rod and reel conducive to a young, and most likely inexperienced angler. I know that first time Captains, in the past, have been concerned about whether or not they can put the guests on fish. I can assure you that it will not matter what is caught or if something is caught. You will see just as much excitement over a pin fish, catfish, lady fish, etc. as you would for a 26 inch red or a 24 inch trout. These Kids love being on a boat (most for the first time) and just seeing what there is to see when your on the water. All will come complete with a chaperone and you will never have a more polite and appreciative guest than one of these young anglers. If you can provide your time and boat, you will sure make a kids day! (and probably yours as well). I will try to post additional information as it becomes available. If you have any questions, please feel free to post them or send me a pm or email and I will answer or find the answer for you.
If you can participate, please send an email to Don England (greenbone) at donengland@embarqmail.com Thanks.

I'm in. Maybe I can get my guest to wash the green slime and kick the spiders out of the boat.

Hello Captains and friends of TAKF
Our little guys at Baptist Childrens Home are looking forward to May 16. This is one of the BIGGEST events that they look forward to each year. As you know, we have a larger group this year, some where around 30 kids. If you know any other captains that would like to help, please have them contact me as soon as posible. The date is a little later in the year than usual, so fishing and the weather should be great. Fishing will be from 8am to 1pm followed by a cookout prepared by my wife Karen.
Here is a list of Captains as of 03/29/2009. If I have left anyone off this list, please contact me.

Re: Take A Kid Fishing
Give me 2 kids. Older the better, going off-shore.
There will be a lady on the boat if you want to send girls. And a head.
