Oyster Bay Kayaking

Post by cmccord »

Finally had the chance to take the kayaks out to OB and fish around a little. My father and I launched at Spring Creek shortly after the sun came over the trees and fished our way out to the islands only catching a couple of snots and a ladyfish, but enjoyed the early morning nonetheless. Once we got to the islands, I managed a nice 22.5" red on T/W. Continued to see lots of action on the surface, bait everywhere and fish rolling everywhere but could not manage to get much response to anything I threw for the majority of the rest of the day. My dad slipped around the island and threw everything he had in the boat at a pile of sheepshead and couldn't entice a single bite, but did manage two nice 17.5" trout.

By this time the tide was about to be changing and we thought it a good idea to make some headway back to the mouth of Spring Creek and fished the bars and grasslines on the way back in. In doing so, I hooked up with a dink red on a spinner Gulp! then Pops managed to find a 26.9999999" Red, also on a spinner bait. This fish had shoulders on it! Gave him a pretty good ride around the mouth of Spring Creek and pulled him in a few circles, opening his eyes to the joys of kayak fishing. After that we traced the grasslines of the creek back into the ramp and loaded up to head home and complete a few Honey Do's.

Back at the Hacienda before 4:00, got some sun, some fish and the opportunity to see some new places. Will definitely be returning to OB in the not too distant future.
