Well now Dubble the first thing I would do is move that thar compass away from all that metal that is throwing it off but seriously If the compass is movable, I would move it into a clear spot, if it still gave a different reading than the GPS, I would follow the compass

Another thing you need to keep in mind is that most people who go missing out on the Gulf every year did not have the proper anchor or did not have a long enough anchor rope with plenty of chain. If you do get out there 20 miles, and you have engine failure, a good anchor will save you and your boat! Make sure it is the type that will hold in sand or grass, as you can't rely on snagging a rock in this area. If your anchor can't hold you in 20 feet of water, you will be in 100 feet by morning! Remember your anchor line needs to be about four times longer than the depth of the water you are in!
