fishing in claudette 8/16 Keaton Beach

Post by firedriver90 »

the wife wanted to go fishing for her birthday yesterday so we loaded up and went to Keaton Beach. We knew the weather had some potential, but decided to play it safe and fish near shore as with the tidal surge there were places available to us that i am not able to fish normally with my boat.as one can imagine conditions were NOT ideal, but the days results were good; my wife got her first red 24" 4.3 lbs. an app. 50 lb stingray, and five nice keeper trout with several shorts thrown back.we were never more than a mile off shore and enjoyed ourselves alot, However i do not recommend doing this,as fishing a tropical system can be very hazardous to your health. My old trophy offshore handled it well, and when i checked weather sun. morning at 4:30 there was no tropical system.we sat out the one squall line that came through at the hot dog stand watching it pass through the windows.the trout bite that occoured happened about 6:30 pm and was all caught on cut bait.three feet of water.Again, i do not recommend this, always keep in mind that every passengers safety is the captains responsibility.

 Way to catch em!

We we're down there as well, but we were out shooting mullet in the creeks and along the grass edges. There was enough water to swim most the afternoon. It shore got nasty around 3pm!

Good job getting 'em!

We were down for the weekend and did the scalloping thing Saturday. Gave it a quick try Sunday morning, but decided to call it quits about 9:30. Once we got the boat loaded and the house cleaned, the weather actually looked better than we decided to head in. Obviously, looks can be deceiving as mentioned by Redfin's comment about the afternoon weather.
