mower blade repair

Post by SHOWBOAT »

Hit a root and bent the blade on my push mower yesterday. Who are the right folks to take it to for repair/replacement in Tallahassee? Thanks in advance.

If it's just a bent blade, take it off and replace. Make sure it's running right though. It's common to knock the timing out of whack if you hit something just right to cause a bent blade. All Pro on Mahan has always done me right  Depending on the make, you might find a cheaper blade at Lowes....

Yes,replace the blade. Vibration from a bent/repaired blad will ruin the drive shaft and seals.

Thanks guys. It is a Craftsman (B&S); looks like I need to make a Sears run for a blade.

Any easy ways to check determine if something more than the blade is messed up? Of course this happened 15 minutes after I changed the oil and plug....

SB,
All Pro on Mahan sells replacement blades for Craftsman, usually less than Sears. More experienced sales staff, too.

There are only two real possible problems that this will cause. First would be a broken or half sheared pin on the flywheel. This what causes the "out of time" situation and is a very easy fix. The second is the worst case and not real likely unless you hit soemthing REAL hard and that is a bent crankshaft. These are usually terminal because a new mower is cheaper.

If you need help I would be happy to look at it for you. Worked on em for 10 years in south Florida.
