I had to take my Merc 850 back to Porter's for more carb maintenance. Only ran the motor once since the last rebuild back in March Mr. Porter wasn't available to talk to, so I paid another $120 for the repairs/cleaning and left. Got home a found a screw hanging out of the bottom of the motor cowling. Took it back, rather than call to describe it, to make sure it wasn't anything "vital." Mr. Porter came out this time and looked at it. He determined the screw was replaced and the old one just not retrieved. Ran the motor to make sure it was right and it checked out fine. He asked what the shop charged me for the 2nd round of repairs on the carbs. I told him $120 and he reached into his front pocket and gave me $40 back I appreciate fairness and someone willing to make things right with no complaints.

1st I took my 90 hp Merc down there for carb cleaning. Charged me what I felt was a fair rate. First trip out ran terrible. Went back and had em check it out again. I should also say this boat had sat for three years before I got it. Turned out the check ball in the fuel tank was sticking and the fuel filter had water in it. They also found a bad temp warning buzzer and replaced it. Problem totally unrelated to the carb work. Went pay the bill and Waivel told them to charge the parts to the shop and I owed nothing. I told him I was very willing to pay especially since they were only charging for parts. He said no they should have caught it the first time.
2nd From my adventure this weekend on the Aucilla. My 25 merc hit a rock very hard. Bent the rock guard, broke the skeg inside and also broke the upper motor mounts. They had a used set of mounts in the scrap pile and fixed the skeg and straightened the rock guard. 100 plus tax!!!! I was expecting twice that.
How he has any spare time I will never know. Great service, good work at very reasonable prices, he will work on every boat I have as long as he is there.
