What should I do?? Boat Purchased !!!!

Post by DeanMac »

Several of you replied to my thread: Flustrating Saturday

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=23786

New developement:
Guy has relisted the boat for Sale and contacted me ( after I sent a smart comment about "Runs Great" in his ad) that it is now fixed and seemed to have sincerely apologize for what happened that day. He has not asked if I still wanted the boat nor have I indicated I would still be interested.

I did find out after he sent me the motor serial number, the warranty expired 9/08.

I thought I might offer to take it if he would meet me about 1/2 way for my lake test. I sure don't want to drive 480 miles again.

What should I do?

I sure would not drive 480 miles this time. He should bring it to you or at the very least meet you somewhere closer to you.
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!

With the economy the way it is in Franklin County, I would look harder around the county  there are and will be a lot of boats for sale there that the folks just can't afford to keep any more "I know, taking advantage of anothers hardship, but that's life"

I would think that would help out someone in hard times. Not so much taking advantage...

I guess, I think if it was meant to be I would got it on my last trip. I had a bank check in hand if it had ran good.

I'd say pass on it. And don't feel bad about the long trip to look see.
I drove from N GA to Tampa to check out a 'you can't beat this deal' boat a couple of years ago.
Picture of the boat looked great, but pictures are deceiving. The gel coat was spider webbed all over the place among other discrepancies. I won't ever drive that far, again.
These guys are right. There are a lot of good deals around and will continue to be. Lot of folks are quitting fishing account of fuel cost and the Fed limit restrictions that keep coming, besides distress situations.

Patience is you friend. The right deal will come along.. :D

For sure, For sure, of the 1/2 dozen I have went to look at the pictures look at least 10 times better than the boat in person.

Neighbor, keep a eye out for me in the area

I agree, it appears to be a buyers market and the market should get better this Winter.

I'm going to go against most opinions and say go for it....if it's what you want and the price is right... Offer him what you're willing to pay for it in the condition it's in... I drove over 400 miles (round trip) to buy my boat and it didn't look like the pictures either.... a LOT of cleaning and scrubbing later, it looks almost new again. I also had to have it tuned and bought a new prop, but it's now my baby.
Life is short.... Ride a Harley and fish a Sea Pro

Thankyou, opinions is what I asked for,

Imo, it is a decent deal and would serve me well, I excepted this, but all I would be buying is a bare boat, motor and trailer.
All accessories had been removed, boat did not even have a tie down strap. Plus as you mentioned the cleaning and scrubbing. It had not even been through a $1 car wash.
