As if catching our limit and a new boat record for the size of a gag grouper last week wasnt enough, my dad wanted in on the action, wrightfully so, it is his boat. So my father, his buddy Larry and I pushed off from St. Marks this morning at 7:30am, only to find our pinfish trap left overnight at the fort only had crabs in it, or some bastages had got to it b4 we got to there and "deboeed" our live pinfish! Not Nice!! Oh well, $tuff happens. We headed off. We made it to the sea buoy and relized noaa blew it again..1ft subsiding to flat was more like 2-3. Oh well, it subsided to flat by the end of the day so thats ok. We started shallow and worked our way out to 28ft, where most of our fish were caught. We trolled and bottom fished...picking up all of our fish bottom fishing, none on the troll! We hit a spot in 26 ft that had a good show on the d-finder. First 10 mins availed only short gags and Reds and grunts and seabass. Then it happened, I was pulling up an 8" Grunt and about 6 ft from the boat i see a shaddow racing up towards it, then it turned broad side and i knew it wasnt a shark and I started freaking out, it was gagzilla, a monster gag! It smashed the grunt 2 ft below the surface next to the boat and dove for the bottom. It came off as it was never hooked because the hook was in the grunts mouth, and came back at the grunt a 2nd time and missed. At this time my dad drops his bait down and gag dove towards the bottom and smashed it. After a long fight in shallow water, my dad subdued the new boat record gag at 34", 22.5 LBS! What a HOG, and dam.. in that shallow water. He got my fish last week beat by 2" and 2 lbs! Man, new boat records back to back weeks! We hit some more spots availing 2 more keeper Gags at 25 and 26" and some quality rock bass. A great day was had by all!!!!!!!!!!
