Follow up to local lessons

Post by willworkforfish »

I checked out the FFF website and found a guy in Thomasville Daniel Crocker. No email or website just a phone number. In Tallahassee there is Lee Avirett and Douglas Behrman. I googled them and for Douglas found a site with nothing on it since like 2005 and noticed that Lee Avirett spoke at the local fly clubs meeting years ago as well. I figure someone on here would know them or know someone who does. Are they still giving lessons? Any advice on which to go with? If any of these fellows are on here I would love to hear from you! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL! hope santa is good to you all!

Not sure if either are still giving lessons or not but either would be an excellent choice. Lee has been involved with FFF for years and used to help teach the fly-tying classes offered through the city. He is a patient instructor and very passionate about the sport. I had forgotten that Doug was certified as well. I haven't taken any lessons from him. However, he is one of the best casters around. He has numerous tournament wins to his credit, including several in the highly-competitive Keys tarpon events and he is also a world record holder for at least a couple tippet classes for giant Louisiana bull reds on fly. Either one would be able to get you started on good habits. Lee's number here in Tally is 224-7425. Doug's work number, I believe, is 894-3330.

Lee is still around and fishing some. Saw him at a high school alumni social a month or so ago. Don't think he's teaching. Great guy, I'm sure he will help you all he can.
