Just for personal use

I sure would like to catch some shrimp this year.

Sorry, illegal for recreational fishing in Florida. You can use a cast net or a seine from shore.

In Florida you can set out 5 pvc poles marking a baited area. You can then throw a cast net from a boat in daylight hours.
If you go along Alligator point in the fall, you can get nice big white shrimp.

I have a friend that is a commercial fisherman. He is checking with FWC for us. I will let you know the results.

Here is the response for FWC

If you are going to use the net to test the presence or size of shrimp then yes it is legal. For some reason I saw this somewhere as a recreational question, if that’s the case then no. You cannot trawl recreationally. Let me know if this helps.

Thanks,

You can bait a spot or use a 500 SF sein, but not a trawl net

Just a guess on my part...but the powers that be may have felt that the chances of more species being in harms way as bi catch when trawling would be much greater than using a sein from the bank or cast netting over a bait spot.

That makes sense,

I guess what surprises me, Being a N Ga mountain boy and a green horn to the salt.

Florida and the salt water has more rules than Carter has pills.
