Ecofina 5/31/10

Post by Hit-n-Miss »

:-D A friend wanted me to show him how to safely get in and out of ecofina. I told him we were going monday and he said he would follow us. We got on the water arround 7:00 and headed out the water was to rough for topwater so we went to alternate tactics. We tried everything but only live or cut pinfish would work. I mean it's tough when they wont even hit a gulp. :smt011 Lost about a 20 something trout that managed to find the transduser on the way to the net. :smt010 After that we slowly wound up with 4 trout 15.25,18,19, and a 20" Water was stained everywhere we went and 79-80 degrees. My boy caught more pinfish than I could keep up with and some of them would be big enough to eat. (can you eat those? just wondering) Not a great catching day but fun with family and friends. Beats working. My buddies boat wound up with 3 which was better than he said he usually does. I was hoping to put them on fish but he was happy anyway. :-D

  Good trip anyway. I'm amazed the water still hasn't cleared up there, but it's been raining a lot.

I'm headed out there tomorrow with a buddy... Thanks for the pinfish tip b/c we were figuring the gulp would work fine. Were you fishing by the mouth of the ecofina or further out? Thanks in advance for any other tips!

My buddy's sister married a guy from Eastern Europe (can't think of the country to save my life right now). He went fishing with them a while back and caught a bunch of pinfish. He wouldn't let them throw them back, and when they got back to the hill he just cleaned them and fried them whole like a bream. They said he really seemed to enjoy it, but none of them would try it. I guess any fish is edible as long as it's not toxic. Heck, some people love the taste of mackerel. To each his own.

Thank you... I'm obviously new to the site, and relatively new to fishing, but I'll be sure to post a report on how our Econfina trip goes!

We eat them everytime we catch them the size of a large bream. Taste fine. Few more bones than a bream but still o:k.
