Trolling motor question

I have a 91' 16 ft hewes bonefisher what # thrust should i go with??? keep in mind since its a older boat its not as light as the new kevlar hulls...

The biggest one you can afford. You'll thank yourself going into a creek mouth or trying to hit the backside of a bar.

70# should be plenty. My 70# Minn Kota on my 18' Tidewater works just fine. If you can afford it, get remote control. I fish from back of boat and can control motor from there. Definitely get 24v system if you have the room for the batteries. My motor is mounted with quick release bracket and comes off of boat for secure storage and keeps it out of the weather. It also helps when traveling (can take inside motel room). Consider good batteries (AGM min.) in costs. They can run upwards of $200.00 a piece and good batteries are a must. Also consider the weight. With trollling motor and (2) batteries you are adding the weight of small person to your boat.

the issue is i dont have a lot of room because it is a small boat.....im not even sure if i can fit 2 batterys in my front hatch....do u think a 12v with a good battery would be sufficent to run or not?

I'm with everyone else, bigger is better. That being said, I think a 55 will work, it'll just be a question of how many hrs you'll get with 1 battery. Just my opinion but I think you would get at least a couple of hrs of slow speed trolling from the 55 and a Optima or Odyssey type battery. Another option for 24v system might be to consider batteries mounted on deck.
