My '96 J14CC is the wettest riding boat I have ever owned. I have done lots to this boat and it has helped, but I am still not satisfied with the ride. It is rough, wet, and handling at speed is scary. The boat wants to slide in the corners, which took me by surprise the first time it happened. I almost have to come off plane to traverse another boat's wake. Storage space is almost nonexistent. I had a door put in at the front deck to be able to use the little bit of space up front. I had the console replaced with a smaller one. All it holds is the helm, the GPS/fishfinder, and the two batteries underneath. That freed up a little space also. Given what I know now, I would hold out until I had the money for a real flats skiff.
I am very happy with the fuel economy. I would have to work hard and fish little to run through 6 gallons of gas in a day. I am also happy with the shallow draft. It will float in about 3-4 inches of water with me and all my gear. Probably 4-5 inches with another person. I would not dream of trying to fish with 3 people on board, let alone try to get up on plane.I know it will float in less water than the trolling motor will operate in.
Would I buy another? Probably not.

I have a CS 198DLV with a 90 hp. I am happy with it, and would absolutely buy it again. Plenty of room for that size boat. Can slap in choppy water, but so what, my truck doesn't ride as nice as a Lexus either, but I like it too. It does everything I need it to do. There are drier boats, sure, but again...so what. I'm dry enough.
