All,
Below is an email I received today from BoatUS. You may be interested on it as it relates to all of us and Ethanol.

Dear BoatU.S. Member,
We need your help. If you believe in "science first," now is the time to urge President Obama to require the federal EPA to understand the effects of higher blends of ethanol before allowing it into our country's gasoline supply.
Time is critical. Last year, a record number of boaters asked EPA to test marine engines before allowing up to 15% (E15) ethanol in gasoline. This testing has not been completed. Now, in late September or early October, EPA is getting ready to announce their decision. We expect they will allow E15 for some engines and not others. This will create different fuels with different availability, prices, and a lot of consumer confusion.
BoatU.S. appreciates and embraces the need to diversify our country's fuel and energy sources. However, we are concerned that EPA may put the "cart before the horse" by granting increased ethanol before we know what it will do in our marine engines. Many boaters, having suffered through the last ethanol transition, agree that we should learn from this recent history, and completely understand what the new fuel will do before approving its use in boats. It may turn out to be harmless, but what if it's not? Shouldn't we wait for the facts before making the decision?
Please help today. Click here http://www.followthescience.org/take-action/ and let President Obama know your concerns about ethanol and ask him to get the science first, before giving EPA the approval for more ethanol in your gasoline.
Many thanks,
Margaret Podlich

Re: EPA and Ethanol
I have said it before and will say it again. Ethanol is the biggest FARCE we have in the country lately. Why?
I do not need a lab or scientist to know that with 10% ethanol, my truck gets 12% less mileage than with regular gas.
Now, that means that 9 gallons of pure gas would carry me the same distance as 10 gallons of 10% ethanol.
So, what we have done is caused the price of corn to go up while doing absolutley NOTHING to decrease gasoline usage.
Where are we getting these great ideas from....
Oh thats right, I almost forgot about Al Gore. After all he did invent the internet, remember.

The more I know about something, the more I know that I did not know as much as I thought I knew that I knew.

Re: EPA and Ethanol
MudDucker's absolutely correct. We're not on the side buttering their bread and no matter how much logic or zeal we may impart, they aren't going to care or listen.MudDucker wrote:Do you really think he cares?
Dear God, look at what they did with healthcare... 70% of folks hated it and knew that the administration was lying when they said costs would go down (already going up), and despite massive protest they passed it anyway and now are silent on the matter, praying we'll forget. They'll face far less scrutiny on this issue from the heartland that doesn't boat as much as us coastal folks so there is 0% chance they'll listen.
Protesting the ethanol move is putting the cart before the horse. Throwing the self-serving bums out of office on November 2 and replacing them with folks who just might listen is putting the horse back in front of the cart. That's fully what I intend on doing and pray that other folks in this exceptional land do, lest we fulfill Obama's dream of no longer being exceptional. Yeah, I said it... and not going to have an apology tour for saying it either...
